Week 9B
For this class, students made in depth critiques of classmates' 404 Error pages.
In general, works were quite successful, fulfilling the requirements set for the assignment. Students made valuable recommendations to improve several pages. In my case, there was room for improvement for sure, including a big oversight of the blue graphic bleeding under the house. This probably happened when when I moved the graphic to make room for the title, I simply missed the changes, when checking for errors. Also, someone suggested that I remove the halo around the hand and hammer. Initially, this did not bother me, but I see they have a point.
Note to self: verify everything, inch by inch before the project is final

Brooke Shaden Lecture - The Barn at Overlook, Lancaster, PA
On October 17th, I attended Brooke Shaden's lecture, which was sponsored by the Society of Design. I didn't have any expectations because I didn't know of Brooke Shaden, nor her work. Well, I was pleasantly surprised with what she had to say.
This young photographer talked about inspiration and living a creative life. She was very uplifting, and I must add that Shaden is a wonderful motivator. She explained that inspiration could be found anywhere and anytime. She stated that we were all artists and that it wasn't necessary to find a perfect spot or moment to create.
For Shaden, an artist is a problem solver, a creative thinker, someone confident to call himself or herself an artist.
She explained how her creative process works; from the conception of her ideas, to the execution of a plan to produce the images she imagined. She draws inspiration from everything, especially, her relationships (all of them: friends, family, people in general), jobs, interactions, locations, etc.
She talked about the importance of surrounding oneself with people one loves.
Brooke Shaden loves to represent beauty and mystery on her photos. She creates imaginary spaces using Photoshop, starting with a concept, and all within a budget. Shaden continued to make a mini demo of her process, which was very illuminating to me, but what I appreciated the most, was the idea of learning to inspire oneself, starting with nothing.

Week 8
Reviewed the progress on classmates' 404 pages, and worked on my own page. This will have serious modifications, but this is what I have so far:
Week 7 Out of Class Work
Still working on the 404 Page. Progress to be updated. I intend to remove the background, include text, and add a new back ground illustration.

Week 7B
Today's work in class was to merge two images as an exercise. The idea is to work based on my preliminary sketch.
Here's what I came out with:
These are not the images that I'll end up using for the final assignment. But I gave me a good idea on how to approach things.

404 Error Pages. We viewed different 404 pages, and discussed various alternatives to approach the design of this pages. Researched several sites to choose one needing to be revamped. I chose Lowe's error page, and sketched a preliminary idea to improve it.
Here are some good ones:
